I am content that the content of messages appears on that web site. However I am not content, now that I look at it, that my email address is available on that site, albeit within a piece of software that is not easily trawled by spam trawl agents What perplexes me is the ability anyone has, member or not, I believe, to extract ALL the email addresses from the list by didn't of a simple command. I could illustrate this by doing that very thing, by importing the list into my email program and by emailing one and all with a bright, cheery, irrelevant and unwanted message. I promise not to do this. What this recruiter has done is to remind us of the inherent insecurities of JISCMail. We should consider, therefore, if JISCMail security should be tightened. -----Original Message----- From: [log in to unmask] [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: 24 September 2001 10:18 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Attn Moderator: RE: Employment Opportunity - Data Protection Mana Hi, This has come up before. The list is open (ie. to people outside *.ac.uk or "academic" domains). Moreover, it is nothing about compromising of the list as messages are put on the web here: http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/data-protection.html hence email addresses could be found anyway. :-) Charles ============================================== Charles Christacopoulos, Secretary's Office, University of Dundee, Dundee DD1 4HN, Scotland, United Kingdom.
