It's Sircam.   Code Red was something else, but equally big in its way.

You can run email virus protection on a border mail gateway, e.g.

http://www.sng.ecs.soton.ac.uk/mailscanner/ (our own one)
http://www.sendmail-filter.sbu.ac.uk/ (another good one, I hear)

Both are cheap to get running, but you need some Unix knowledge.

MailScanner is running on our University gateways, and picked up 1,000
Sircam instances per day at its peak.   Well worth installing...
