Dear all

In the music that Shostakovich wrote for "King Lear" the Songs of the Fool are a set of variations on what in the West is known as "Jingle Bells". Does anybody know what the status of this song was in the Soviet Union in the early 1940s? Were/are there other words to it? Would DS have known it as "Jingle Bells" or as something else? Any clues would be welcome.
