CENTRE FOR RUSSIAN MUSIC, GOLDSMITHS COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY OF LONDON PRESENTS:

A Day of Sofia Gubaidulina
Purcell Room, South Bank Centre

25 February 2001        from  1pm to 9:30 pm

Goldsmiths' prestigious Centre for Russian Music is organising a
celebration of the life and work of Sofia Gubaidulina, the greatest living
Russian composer who will be 70 years old in 2001.

The celebration will be the only London tribute to Gubaidulina - festivals
of her music will also take place on Stockholm, Melbourne, New York, Moscow.

The day will include three concerts (at 1.00pm, 4.00 pm and 7.30 pm)
featuring best of Gubaidulina's chamber music, together with a round table
discussion with the performers and composers, and a film on the composer
and her music.

THE DAY WILL BE COMPLEMENTED BY THE  INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 'MAGIC WORLD
PF SOFIA GUBAIDULINA' AT THE GOLDSMITHS COLLEGE ON 26 FEBRUARY, 3- 6 PM.
SPEAKERS TO INCLUDE VELERIA TSENOVA (RUSSIA), MICHAEL KURTZ (GERMANY),
ALEXANDER IVASHKIN (GOLDSMITHS COLLEGE), GERARD MCBURNEY (RAM), RAZIA
SULTANOVA (GOLDSMITHS COLLEGE), CAROLINE ASKEW (UNIVERSITY OF
HUDDERSFIELD). PRESENTATION OF TWO NEW BOOKS ON GUBAIDULINA BY M.KURTZ AND
V.TSENOVA.

Notes for Editors
The Centre for Russian Music (CRM) Centre was established at Goldsmiths
College, University of London , to house a unique archive of materials
dedicated to Russian music, to organise concerts, festivals, conferences
and seminars, and to co-ordinate international  research programmes. It
works under the auspices of an International Board of Patrons, including
musicians of world renown: Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Krzysztof Penderecki,
Lames MacMillan, Alexander Lazarev, Rodion Shchedrin,  Irina Schnittke and
