Dear Winbugs users,

For a long time I using Winbugs for large problems I was irritated by
the fact that I could not see any way to interrupt a run without
crashing the program. Hence, if for instance I wanted to run a program
over two nights, I could not pause it while I used the computer for
something else during the day, expect by roughly calculating the number
of iterations completed in (say) ten hours. Sometimes such calculations
can be wildly out.

I then discovered the following trick, which others might also find
useful.
If you click on the updates box in the Update dialog and then delete the
digits there with either the backspace or delete key, the updating will
stop after completing the current iteration. This works however many
iterations were originally programmed. It works even if you do not see
any response at the time that you are typing, which will be the case if
the time to complete each iteration is substantial. The consequence is
that you can set up Winbugs to do far more iterations than you would
ever want, and then pause it whenever you like.

I hope this is helpful to others. I certainly find it a useful thing to
be able to do,

Regards,
