Hello David, We migrated from CI 4 to Bb5 over the summer and had a few teething troubles. If you are transferring things over to an empty server then things will be easier, but be warned! The first problem we had was getting the information from Blackboard on how to physically transfer all our existing CourseInfo material over to the new server. Huddersfield noted that some material simply 'went missing' but we didn't really notice anything out of the ordinary. One of the problems we had was due to the fact that we had some courses already in Bb. CourseInfo effectively overwrites the database so we had to export all our courses in re-import them. However, this resulted in many users being duplicated and Bb could not provide a solution, so we essentially had to sift through the database to correct all duplicates (who were given new usernames too!). For example, user abc was duplicated as abc1, abc2, abc3 and had their courses split between the usernames. I also felt (though didn't test this rigourously) that even if some users ported OK, their password became corrupt so we also spent some time resetting passwords. I'll speak to our server administrator about discussing this with you if you like. hope this helps regards Paul -----Original Message----- From: A list to promote discussion amongst MLE Blackboard/Courseinfo users in UK [mailto:[log in to unmask]]On Behalf Of David Morrison Sent: 16 October 2001 08:12 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: How long does it take to migrate from CI4 to BB 5.5.1? Hello We are just having a trial of migrating our existing Courseinfo 4 system to BB 5.5.1. We kicked the process off a couple of hours ago, and it is sitting there at 100% CPU utilisation, with no perceptible disk activity. We will leave it overnight to see if anything happens, but would be grateful if anyone who has done this migration could give an idea of how long it should take. This is where it is up to: Starting section 1.3.1 populating various maps. Starting section 1.3.2 migrating course_users table. Course_users migration in process, please wait. ...................................................100% Total of 30459 out of 30459 rows migrated Starting section 1.3.3 migrating user_uploads table. user_uploads migration in process, please wait. (All of this is on Solaris 8.) Thanks for any help.
