Dear colleagues:

Please ignore cross postings.

This is to inform you of several new and, in many cases, heretofore
unpublished papers on matters of interest to archivists and records managers
at www.rbarry.com including:

-- Brewster Kahle's appeal for help in locating web pages relating to the
September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks for the preservation by the Internet
Archives
-- Bob Williams invitation for completion of a survey of archives and records
management professionals http://www.cohasset.com/mer/survey/survey2001/
by September 24, as the results will be announced at the upcoming Managing
Electronic Records (MER 2001) Conference in Chicago, sponsored by Cohasset.
I hope to see old and new friends there.
-- Terry Cook's appeal for advocacy of the UNESCO Resolution on Digital
Heritage Preservation
-- A new article in CIO Magazine on electronic records aimed at CIOs that you
may find useful to pass on to your own CIO or IT Director
-- Several additional presentations (whole sessions) from the recent SAA
Annual Conference in Washington earlier this month -- some really excellent
papers by: Catherine Bailey, National Archives of Canada; Ineke Deserno,
UNHCR; Lisa Polisar, Covington & Burling; Elisa Liberatori Prati, new
Archivist of the World Bank and Andres McAlister, World Bank. These are in
addition to the sessions already on the site that were noted in my last
announcement. This brings to four the number of sessions now accessible
electronically on www.rbarry.com.
-- My September 10, 2001 keynote presentation to the SC IT Directors
Association: "Recordmaking Systems That Aren't Recordkeeping Systems: Making
sure IT doesn't get blindsided"

Lots of good new material that I hope many of you will find very useful in
your own work! As always, I invite you while visiting my site to stop into
my Guest Book where you may run in to old friends internationally -- and, of
course, if the spirit moves you, please leave your own mark. It is one of the
few ways I have to know whether I am hitting the mark with content that is of
special interest to you.

Regards,

Rick Barry
