UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON & DRUG SAFETY RESEARCH UNIT Medical Statistics Group, Health Care Research Unit STATISTICIAN A junior statistician is required for a joint post between the Medical Statistics Group and the Drug Safety Research Unit. The person appointed will work on a variety of projects in both groups, providing advice on statistical aspects of medical research, including study design, data management, analysis, interpretation and publication of results. There will be opportunities for the person appointed to assist in teaching on courses given by the Medical Statistics Group. Ideally candidates should have an MSc in medical statistics and experience of at least one statistical software packages (such as SPSS or Stata). Some experience in statistical consulting would be helpful, but it is expected that initially the person appointed will work under supervision. Training, as necessary, will be provided. Starting salary will be in the range £16,775 to £25,213 per annum depending on experience, and the post initially has funding for a period of two years with the expectation of its being continued. The job will be based in the Medical Statistics Group at the Southampton General Hospital and also at the Drug Safety Research Unit situated some three miles from Southampton in pleasant rural surroundings.
