http://www.herts.ac.uk/business/staff_public/nhspencer_public/seminars

Sponsored by Department of Statistics, Accounting and
Management Systems, Business School, University of Hertfordshire.

Wednesday 6th June 2001, 2:30pm, room M14, Hertford campus
Robert Aykroyd (University of Leeds)
Title: "Bayesian Imaging in Archaeological Geophysics"
Abstract:
"The use of noninvasive techniques for the investigation of sites of
potential archaeological interest has grow over recent years. In
magnetometry, for example, differences in the local magnetic field
relative to the earth's magnetic field can be measured and display as
an image with archaeological features appearing as extreme
measurements. These images, however, are degraded by noise and blur
and so can be difficult to interpret. This talk will present a
Bayesian approach to the analysis of archaeological data, and will
discuss its ability to allow more interesting and challenging
modelling"
