Stephanie Pywell and Neil Spencer (University of Hertfordshire)
Title: "Parental Perceptions of Vaccine Damage"
Abstract:
"There is a vigorous debate about whether vaccines are causally linked
with a range of disorders in children. Parental concerns about vaccine
safety may lead to reduced vaccine uptake, with adverse implications
for public health. In the study reported on here, parents' reports of
medical diagnoses and the vaccines they suspect have caused damage
were analysed using tabulation and confidence intervals. Significant
associations were observed between particular medical diagnoses and
particular vaccines that were suspected of causing damage to the
child. We believe it important that further detailed work is carried
out to see whether any of the results shown here apply to the
population as a whole."
