Hello everyone

Due to popular demand, the European Information Association is running
its 'How to find out about the EU' course on Wednesday 28
November 2001 at City University in London.

The course is a beginner's guide to the work, publications and
electronic sources of the main EU institutions.

The course is designed for information workers who are new (or
relatively new) to dealing with EU enquiries.  No prior knowledge of the
EU required!

The programme is outlined below. The cost is 125 GBP + VAT to EIA
members, 175 GBP plus VAT to non-members which includes refreshments,
lunch and documentation.  Please contact me if you'd like further

Please note - our popular course 'Electronic sources of EU information'
runs the next day.  If you book for both courses, you will receive a
discount of 20 GBP on the total amount.

Find out about the major EU institutions and the part each plays in EU
decision-making.

11.00   Coffee

11.15   Tracing documents relating to the EU legislative process
Learn how the legislative process works and which documents are produced
on the way.  Find out how to trace these documents using both printed
and electronic sources.

12.00   Hands-on session and Quiz!
An opportunity to use the sources and to test and consolidate your new
found knowledge with your colleagues.

12.45   Lunch

13.30   How to trace information on key EU policy areas
Find out how to use a variety of printed and electronic sources to trace
information about key policy areas and how to keep up-to-date with
developments.  (The session will trace how the EU's food safety policy
was developed).

14.15   Hands-on session
An opportunity to use the sources, both in printed form and on the web.

15.00   Tea

15.15   EU Information units and networks
Find out who the other EU information providers are in your area and
where to go for specialist information.

15.45   Questions and close
A chance to get some expert advice!
