Did any other universities receive a letter from UCAS concerning mailing to university applicants? UCAS advised that before sending commercial material to students, institutions should obtain the applicant's consent. We send out such material to new students with 'Freshers Packs' before they arrive at university and the OIC suggested that if we were to continue with further mailings after this initial one, we ought to obtain the students' consent. We include a statement on our registration form which students sign every year, but there is no opt out box - only a name and address to contact if they do not want to receive the mailings. What do other institutions do?
