I have just checked this point for you.  The "crossed off" copy is returned
in a sealed envelope to the Returning Officer who in turn returns it
together with the ballot boxes to the Council.  The envelope is never opened
and in turn is lodged with the Sheriff Clerk who keeps it for a year and
then destroys it.  Apparently, if you are so inclined you can go to the
Sheriff Clerk and ask to see it.  I am told that the local parties usually
go to have a look and see who has voted for them and who has not!!  I
presume Peter the same will apply to you as you too are in Scotland.
The scenario for the rest of the UK may be somewhat different.
