Hello, I'm trying to figure out what to do about cleaning our stores and I'm interested to hear what other archives find acceptable. Our material is boxed and relatively safe from dirt. The problem is regular cleaning of floors, fittings and shelving. Being a small service (two staff), our spring clean tends is getting later and later each year. As we get busier it gets harder to do at all, which is embarrassing to admit. Do we use the office contract cleaners and hope they follow instructions correctly (unlikely)or are there any firms we can hire who specialise in archival standard cleaning? We might have trouble paying a special contractor on a regular basis e.g. weekly/monthly, but we could argue for quarterly. The idea of getting our office cleaning firm to do the store too is rather scary: buckets of water, furniture polish etc. Any good ideas? Please answer off list.
