Dear all,

The Society of Antiquaries of London and the Archaeology Data Service
are pleased to announce the joint publication of the monograph and
digital archive for the Fyfield and Overton Down Project by Prof. Peter
Fowler.

This exciting joint venture, funded by English Heritage, explores the
boundaries of traditional archaeological monograph publication through
the use of a large online digital archive
(http://ads.ahds.ac.uk/catalogue/ - look under Project Archives). The
digital archive serves two purposes:

1. To support the monograph Landscape Plotted and Pieced: Landscape
History and Local Archaeology in Fyfield and Overton, Wiltshire by Peter
Fowler (published in 2000 by The Society of Antiquaries of London,
distributed by Oxbow Books),

and the popular book The Land of Lettice Sweetapple. An English
Countryside Explored, by P. Fowler and I. Blackwell, 1998, published by
Tempus, Stroud

and the online excavation reports
 * Excavation within a later prehistoric field system on Overton Down,
West
Overton, Wilts: land-use over 4,000 years
 * Excavation of a Settlement of the Fourth and Fifth Centuries AD on
Overton
   Down, West Overton, Wilts
 * Excavation of the Medieval Settlement of 'Raddun', Wroughton Mead,
   Fyfield Down, near Marlborough, Wilts
 * Seven Small Excavations on Fyfield and Overton Downs, with summaries
of eighteen other excavations in and near Fyfield and West Overton
Parishes, Wiltshire

2 .to offer an insight into the intellectual processes involved in the
execution of a large and complex project by offering essentially
everything from jotted down thoughts to full site reports.

The archive consists of 100 Fyfod Working Papers (FWPs) each of which
consists of from one to over 40 word processed documents. Each file making
up the Fyfod Working Papers may be downloaded in a variety of file
formats.

If you have any questions or comments about the archive please don't
hesitate to contact us!
