We invite applications for 2 Research Assistant Posts in the Geography
Department at Coventry University (salary up to £18,771).

We require candidates with a good honours degree in geography or a
cognate discipline, with specialism in rural studies and preferably with
postgraduate research experience, to work on the following 2 European
Commission funded projects:

1. Supply Chains Linking Food SMEs in Europe's Lagging Rural Regions
(SUPPLIERS)

This 36 month project aims to assist the sustainable development of
small food enterprises in lagging rural regions of the EU through the
development of new tools and models for supply/distribution of chain
integration, leading to improved market accessibility and
competitiveness. This is a major international research project
involving partners in the UK (Scotland, Wales and England), Ireland,
Finland, France, Greece and Poland.

2. Supporting and Promoting Integrated Tourism in Europe's Lagging
Rural Regions (SPRITE)

This 38 month project aims to analyse the potential for better
integrated tourism in Europe's lagging rural regions and assess how
tourism's linkages with local/regional resources, activities, products
and communities may be developed. This is a major international research
project involving partners in the UK (Wales and England), France,
Ireland, Greece, Spain and the Czech Republic.

Both projects require an appointee with knowledge of rural development;
computer-based data analysis; questionnaire surveying and interviewing;
wordprocessing, email and internet skills; extensive literature reviews;
report writing to publication standard; good interpersonal and
self-management skills. A full clean driving licence is necessary. A
knowledge of French would be an advantage. The posts will provide
excellent experience of international and inter-disciplinary research,
and offer opportunities for publication. Candidates must have a high
degree of motivation, an ability for independent work, and an enthusiasm
for travel.
