Esteemed List Members,
I hope this request will not seem inappropriate.

My bright fifteen-year old has placed Dante's Inferno at the top of his Christmas wish list.
I note an array of English translations, including: Lawrence Grant White, John D. Sinclair, Henry Francis Cary, and Elio Zappulla, among others.

Might someone steer me(and him) toward a generally commendable translation (preferably illustrated by either Dore or Gillespie)?

Sincere thanks, and happy St. Malo's Day,
j michael walker
