The series will examine the full range of the ideas contained in the term translatio. These will include habits and techniques of appropriation, transformation and translation, and the transmission of texts, ideas and cultural practices. A volume of essays based on the research presented at the series is planned. Arrangements to bring the series to a wider audience, with a conference at the Newberry Library (University of Chicago), are in progress. The first conference in the Translatio series will be held on Saturday 19 May at the University of Aberdeen. Papers of 20-25 minutes are invited on the theme of 'Translatio: Appropriation and Interpretation'. <color><param>0100,0100,0100</param>Possible topics include: Gender and authorship; Translations from and into English; Political uses and transformations of texts; Practice and prescription; Manipulations of genre and literary traditions; Adaptations (script to print; page to stage; age to age); Writers, readers and audiences (nation, class, creed); Repertories and literary markets; Renaissance literary theory and literary conventions.
