------- Forwarded message follows ------- From: "marriott" <[log in to unmask]> To: <[log in to unmask]> Subject: International Research Date sent: Wed, 4 Oct 2000 21:25:21 +1000 The manager of Ambleside Tours, Woody Marriott, is the proud replicant of a Qantas Winston Churchill Fellowship for 2000. He is conducting research into the accessibility of places of accommodation, transport and tourist attractions/places of interest, for people with disAbilities. His chosen countries are USA, UK and Canada, with a possibility of Austria, Belgium and The Netherlands.. He will be visiting these countries in April-July 2001. In order for Woody to get the most out of his trip and decide where to go and what to see, he requires assistance in access issues relevant to a particular city/country, he needs local information and for advice and assistance, if required. Therefore, it is imperative that he meets up with disAbility groups in the area to gain a bigger picture into local concerns, such as access to major landmarks, public transit/transport - including cruises - for all people with disAbilities. Are disAbled people consulted in terms of town planing? These places should be accessible for anyone with a disAbility/disorder, bearing in mind the physical - limited mobility - including people with intellectual and sensory - i.e. blind or deaf - disAbilities. It is not possible to visit every place of accommodation, attraction or transit/transport, so in order to plan for this research, we require the information before coming. Please send your postal address. It would be greatly appreciated If you could supply us with some details. If you aware of any other contacts which you feel would be relevant, please contact me. To councils If you have a disAbility service or department, could they possible contact us, please? To Tourist Bureaus or Information Centres Could I ask for some general information on your area, attractions/place of interest, accommodation and other such relevant information on disAbility access or related information please? Please sen d to: Tim Marriott at the address at the bottom of this email. To Major attractions/Places of Interest and Transport Authorities Is it possible for Woody to be given a 'famil' to your attraction, to access the level of accessibi lity for people with disAbilities, please? This would be valuable to advise future travellers from Australia. If you require more information on this international research or about Ambleside Tours, please don 't hesitate to contact me at [log in to unmask] Yours faithfully, Tim Marriott. ______________________________________________________________ Ambleside Tours, 'Tours for people with disAbilities', 34 Stoda Street, Heathmont 3135, Victoria, Australia.
