A good starting point for pilgrimages and Santiago is William Melzcer, The
Pilgrim’s Guide to Santiago de Compostela (Italica 1993). This is a translation
of the fifth book of the Codex Calixtinus with an extensive introduction,
detailed commentaries, a hagiographical register, a gazetteer. There is also
Maryjane Dunn and Linda Kay Davidson, eds., The Pilgrimage to Compostela in the
Middle Ages: A Book of Essays (Garland, 1996). In addition to their
introduction
(‘Bibliography of the Pilgrimage’), this collection includes essays on the
music, iconography and literature related to the pilgrimage. Also useful is
Dunn & Davidson, The Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela: A Comprehensive,
Annotated Bibliography (Garland, 1994). You can find basic information
about the
pilgrimage routes, traditions, Santiago de Compostela, etc., at:

http://www.xacobeo.es/

On the Holy Year page of this site there's even a description of their
botafumeiro (height 1.10 meters, weight 50 kilos), and there's a live Web Cam
set up inside the botafumeiro nave (a fairly dark image at night). There's also
a good introduction (in Spanish) to the cult and pilgrimage route at:

http://cvc.cervantes.es/actcult/camino_santiago/introduccion.htm

I hope this is of some help.
