Bookstart Conference 27th October 2000 Book Trust invites health, education and library professionals to attend the national conference to hear about the latest research findings, share ideas and good practice and discuss the future of the Bookstart project. Booking fee is £40.00. The National Bookstart Conference, to be held at the University of Manchester's prestigious Whitworth Hall on Friday 27th October, will reveal the preliminary findings from the latest research on Bookstart by Professor Kim Reynolds, University of Surrey, Roehampton. Bookstart, the scheme pioneered by the independent charity Book Trust and sponsored by Sainsbury's, has now distributed more than 1 million free books to babies. The impetus behind the scheme came from the research initiated by Book Trust in 1992, which revealed that Bookstart babies outperformed their peers in literacy and numeracy on entering primary education.
