Dear Helen Jarvis,

Whilst you do not specify what is, in your interpretation, either "early" or
"large-scale", I suggest the following purveyors of original and of reprint
OS cartographic :-

1) David Archer (who may still be subscribing to Lis-maps, so he'll
probably respond to you privately), in Welsh Wales, e-mail :

2) A.J.[ohn] Coombes, 24 Horsham Road, Dorking, Surrey RH4 2JA : tel.
01306-880736 ; fax : 01306-743641. Specialises in British topography and
local history - including the sort of OS plans and/or maps you mention.

3) Alan Godfrey Maps (high quality reproductions of OS plans, but perhaps
not yet of Canterbury) in Leadgate, Consett DH8 7PW, website :
http://www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk

And, of course, large reference collections of OS material for which see,
e.g. : 'Historians' guide to early British maps : a guide to the location
of pre-1900 maps of the British Isles preserved in the United Kingdom and
Ireland' by Helen Wallis and Anita McConnell (London : Royal Historical
Society, 1994), (RHS guides and handbooks, ISSN 0080-4398 ; No. 18), ISBN
0-86193-141-6. I have a spare, clean, un-updated copy of this if you (or
another Lis-map subscriber) would find it of use. And don't forget, the
RGS-IBG Map Room has an a) b&w xerox copier should this be of help to know
(i.e. if we have an original 6-inches to 1 mile map of what you need). And
forget not the county-by-county CD-ROMs of this series available through
Sitescope (http://www.sitescope.co.uk).

Francis Herbert (Curator of Maps, RGS-IBG)
