++ Please feel free to forward this message to other relevant forums ++ I am pleased to announce the publication of another article in Internet Archaeology 8 "The Compelling Computer Image: a double-edged sword" by Harrison (Nick) Eiteljorg II http://intarch.ac.uk/journal/issue8/eiteljorg_index.html Drawing partly on his own work on the Athenian Acropolis, Nick argues that although compelling and believable images are more easily created with computers than ever before, on the other hand, such images can be _so_ compelling that even sophisticated viewers may accept uncritically the information that they present. He urges care in the creation, and by extension use, of the images that computers allow us to create, otherwise we risk implying certainty and even agreement where they might not exist. Several other articles in this issue are also concerned with issues surrounding computer-generated visualisations and representation in archaeology. http://intarch.ac.uk/journal/issue8/index.html Your feedback is always welcome. ** AC.UK READERS ONLY - please note ** You will only be able to access the full text of this article if your institution has paid a subscription to the journal (please see http://intarch.ac.uk/subscriptions.html for details). Internet Archaeology is an *international* journal for archaeology - we set NO geographical or chronological restrictions on content. We are always looking for quality articles from archaeological researchers all over the world. Please see our editorial policy at http://intarch.ac.uk/news/edpol.html for more details or direct your enquiries to me. Judith . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
