The book is based on the author's own biography. 3. Ingrid Noll, The Pharmacist, HarperCollins Trade Paperback 1999 In this crime novel by one of the most popular contemporary German 'crime ladies', Hella Moormann is telling her life story to Rosemarie Hirte, the unknown, unprepossessing woman in the next bed at Heidelberg Hospital for Women. The story centres around Hella's affair with a young dental surgeon and their involvement with drugs and murder. But Rosemarie also has secrets. The book was also turned into a film. 4. Emine Sevgi Özdamar, Life Is a Caravanserai, translated by Luise von Flotow, Middlesex University Press Paperback, August 2000 This highly acclaimed story of the childhood and adolescence of a Turkish girl is based on the author's own experiences. Sevgi Özdamar is a writer and actress who was born in Turkey in 1946 but has lived in Germany since the early 70s.
