"After the Future: Other Views of Post-Soviet Urban Space"

Organizer: Marianna Pavlovskaya, Department of Geography, Hunter College

This special AAG session on post-soviet (post-communist) urban
transformation will explore the on-going 
urban change from critical, post-structuralist, and feminist 
perspectives. Scholars with region Possible themes include but by no 
means are limited to:

Problematizing transition: Explaining the post-communist change
Privatization of urban space
Class and gender change in the context of urban restructuring
Links to past legacies: The post-Soviet and post-socialist city?
Look into the future: The post-industrial, post-modern, and capitalist
city?
Local government in the post-Soviet political space
Neighborhood transformation and change
Ethnic identity in the post-Soviet urban space
Reading the post-Soviet landscape

Depending upon the participants, I will seek sponsorship from the
following specialty groups (other suggestions are welcome):

Urban Geography
GPOW
Socialist Geography Specialty Group
