Call for papers 

The Fourth SMESME International Conference
STIMULATING MANUFACTURING EXCELLENCE IN SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES

14-16 May 2001 at Aalborg University, Denmark

Two types of presentations
Two types of presentation will take place during the conference. As well as
"traditional" sessions of 3 to 4 presen-tations of 25+5 minutes each, we
call for sessions based on short presentations followed by a group
discussion on the subject, organised by the speakers and the session chairman.

Submission of papers
Initial selection will be made on the basis of abstracts up to 300 words,
which should be received before 30 September 2000. The full paper should be
submitted by e-mail no later than 10 December 2000. Papers are double blind
refereed by members of the international programme committee prior to
acceptance for conference proceedings. 

The following criteria will be used in reviewing the papers:
· clear statement of aim
· use of appropriate research method
· clear presentation of findings
· conclusions of relevance to the SME community
· originality

Decisions regarding accepted papers will be made in January. Authors of
accepted papers will be required to submit a full camera-ready version of
the papers before 1 March 2001, taking account of reviewers' comments. The
maximum length of the paper is 8 pages. Templates of paper set-up will be
available at the conference homepage.
Authors of accepted papers will be required to sign a copyright transfer
form and to register for the conference. Publication of the paper in the
proceedings is conditional upon payment of the registration fee of at least
one of the authors.

Industrial and university visits (afternoon)

A visit to Skagen (northernmost part of Jutland) will be arranged on
Wednesday afternoon as an alternative to the industrial and university
visits.	

Professor Jens Ove Riis gives the keynote lecture on Monday morning, where
he presents the status and goals of the newly formed Center for Production
at Aalborg University.

The keynote lectures on Tuesday afternoon address Manufacturing Information
Systems challenges in research and industry. Examples of collaboration
between large Danish manufacturers and their SME suppliers, supply chain
integration and Web/ERP integration will be included. 
A small exhibition area is planned on Tuesday for software demonstrations
and other appropriate presentations.

· acceptance and reviewer comments by 20 January 2001
· early Bird registration for the conference by 1 February 2001
· registration for the conference by 1 March 2001
· submission of camera-ready paper by 1 March 2001

The delegate registration fee is DKK 3.500 (early Bird DKK 3.000) inclusive
of attendance at conference sessions, conference dinner, social programme,
lunches, morning and afternoon refreshments and a copy of the conference
proceedings. An accompany fee of DKK 500 covers the social programme and
conference dinner.

The city of Aalborg offers a wide range of hotels from approx. DKK 475 to
DKK 895 per night for a single room. The recommended conference hotel is
"Limfjordshotellet" from where we arrange a free bus pick-up service in the
morning. We have reserved sixty rooms at a special price of DKK 750 per
night including breakfast. The hotel is placed nearby "Jomfru Ane Gade" - a
well known street with a large variety of restaurants and pubs. A list of
alternative hotels and prices will be available at the conference homepage. 

Aalborg Airport has more than 10 daily domestic connections to Copenhagen
and Billund. The airport bus will bring you to the centre of town in less
than 10 minutes. The university is situated in the eastern part of Aalborg,
15 minutes from the airport by taxi.
