Resource Appoints New Advisers

London, 5 July 2000 -- Resource: The Council for Museums, Archives and
Libraries has appointed Oliver Gillman as Gates Fund Adviser and Nick Poole
as ICT Adviser.

Chris Batt, Director of Access and Learning, commented: "Resource's
agenda has a strong focus on Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
across the three sectors. Oliver and Nick will play an important role in
taking these aims forward and developing ICT across the board."

Oliver Gillman will manage the allocation of the $4.2million (£2.5 million)
gift from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for the provision of ICT
learning centres in public libraries in the UK. Under the plan, 47 central
and regional libraries will each be given 11 public access computers for
library users to develop their information and communication technology
skills. A further 322 community libraries will receive two computers and
associated equipment to provide similar facilities.

Nick Poole will help devise IT strategy for the UK's museums, libraries and
archives, develop the People's Network, evaluate Resource IT projects and
assist in the running of the IT Challenge Fund. Formerly the Resource
Website Manager, Nick developed the organisation's interim website at
www.resource.gov.uk <http://www.resource.gov.uk> .
