UNIVERSITY of LIMERICK OLLSCOIL LUIMNIGH Postgraduate Research Opportunities in the Department of Languages & Cultural Studies College of Humanities The Department of Languages and Cultural Studies invites applications from suitably qualified students for two scholarships towards postgraduate studies (MA/PhD) at the University of Limerick. Each of the scholarships is worth £ 4,500 p.a., inclusive of all grants and is free of Income Tax / PRSI. The scholarships are for one year in the first instance and renewable for three years for suitable candidates. Recipients of the scholarships cannot undertake any other paid employment without the consent of their supervisor and the Head of Department, and research must be carried out on a full-time basis. (a) Scholarship in either French or German: Applications are invited from candidates interested in the following areas of research: French: Seventeenth and eighteenth-century literature; the Year Abroad; Cinema; Cultural Studies; travel literature; Francophone literature; language for Special Purposes; French Poetry; Contemporary French Politics and Society; Computer-Assisted Language Learning; Women's writing in French. German: Applied Language Studies; GDR literature; nineteenth- and twentieth-century Irish-German relations (culture and politics); nineteenth- and twentieth-century German literature; nineteenth - and twentieth-century Swiss/Austrian literature. (b) Scholarship in Languages and Cultural Studies: Applications are invited from students interested in any area offered by the Department: Cultural Studies, English as a Foreign Language, English Literature, French, Gaeilge, German, Japanese, Linguistics, Spanish and Technical Communication. Applications consisting of a curriculum vitae, a 1000-word research proposal, and the names of two academic referees should reach the Assistant Dean, Research, College of Humanities, Limerick, by 8th September 2000.
