Dear CSCST members

Currently we have vacancies for 2 lectureships, one in geochemistry and
the other in molecular ecology. Details are as follows. If you are
interested, please contact me as soon as possible.

Two Lecturerships in Environmental Science

The launch of a new Centre for Environmental Research (CER) has given
the opportunity for the appointment of two lecturers to work on
inter-disciplinary research between Environmental Science and either
Chemistry or Biological Sciences (both of which are RAE grade 5). The
following two fields of research are being considered, but applications
from researchers in related fields are strongly encouraged.

Environmental Biochemist/Biologist (Ref389)
interested in the use of molecular techniques to investigate
environmental change. These could include (i) molecular ecology
techniques to study changes in diversity (ii) the development of
biomarkers to monitor chemical exposure, and (iii) the use of DNA
technologies to either screen and test for hazardous chemicals, or in
bioremediation processes.

Environmental Geochemist/Chemist (Ref 390)
with interests such as (i) the characterisation, behaviour and
availability of contaminants in soils, waters, sediments or the
atmosphere (ii) exposure, interactions and cycling of contaminants by
plants and animals, and (iii) human or ecological risk assessment

Salary will be on either Lecturer Grade A (£17,238-£22,579) or Grade B (
23,521–£30,065) per annum on the Teaching Faculty Scales. Closing date:
4 August 2000.

The research activities in CER and Environmental Science are summarised
on the website, which also has links to Biological Sciences and to
Chemisty, at
