** Apologies if you subscribe to multiple lists and so receive multiple copies of this posting ** PLEASE DO NOT HIT THE REPLY BUTTON! PLEASE REPLY TO THE EMAIL ADDRESS GIVEN BELOW. Dear List Members, Some of you might be interested in a software workshop that is coming up soon in the UK. The workshop will use the cognitive mapping method (developed by Colin Eden and Fran Ackermann (University of Strathclyde)) and Decision Explorer, the software developed to support it. Title: Advanced Decision Explorer Workshop Host/ Sponsor: Banxia Software Ltd Date: Monday 26th June 2000 Trainer/ Facilitator: Dr Fran Ackermann, University of Strathclyde Location: London, UK Description: This workshop will focus on cognitive mapping (both paper based and computer supported), its application for decision support in strategy development, use of the Decision Explorer software to support the process and workshop facilitation issues. The ideas presented in the workshop are based on the research and writings of Colin Eden and Fran Ackermann (both of Strathclyde University, Glasgow). Their book, "Making Strategy: the journey of strategic management" (Sage 1998), deals in detail with some of the techniques covered in the workshop. Decision Explorer (the ideas mapping tool developed to support cognitive mapping) can be used to generate "maps" of ideas and to pull them together to form a coherent picture that will help to improve understanding of a situation. It is a "visual thinking" tool, which can be used with information generated by an individual or a group. Prior to the workshop you will be sent preparatory materials, so that you will have a basic level of familiarity with the software, thus allowing the workshop to focus on issues beyond "which buttons to press!"
