Women at the Edge: Border crossings, risk and resistance

RGS/IBG WGSG session

Convened by Tracey Skelton and Parvati Raghuram
Department of International Studies
Nottingham Trent University
Clifton Lane
Nottingham
NG11 8NS

Feminist research has highlighted the gendered nature of political,
social,
economic and cultural life and the agency of women and girls in
engaging
with and reconstituting these spheres. They have engaged with
various
forms
of 'risk' in this process.

We invite papers which focus on the 'risks' facing those women
who cross
borders, economic, cultural, social, sexual, physical or others and
the
choices, decision-making processes and obstacles that such
border
crossing
involves. Papers could focus on
*	women who threaten gender boundaries through their
presence in
masculinised work spaces or social and cultural spaces.
*	Women in 'risky' physical spaces, from violent households
to war
zones
*	Migrant women crossing state borders

Any one interested in submitting papers on the above topics is
invited
to
contact either of the convenors:
