University of Bristol
Institute for Learning and Research Technology (ILRT)

Web Usability Engineer (#18915 - #24479 pa) Ref: 6480

The ILRT is the largest group of its kind in the UK (over 60 staff). It
is an international centre of excellence in the development and use of
new technology in learning and research. It is a lively and very busy
place to work which tends to retain its very high quality staff because
the work is varied, interesting and occasionally exciting and because
there is a culture of team work.

We wish to appoint a Web Usability Engineer to work as part of the
Internet Development (ID) Group. This Group undertakes a wide variety of
Web related projects, including Web site design and development, online
database implementation, usability studies, Web site audits and
associated research.

You will be working with the ID group and other projects within the
ILRT. The primary responsibility will be to ensure that ID/ILRT Web
sites incorporate usability issues into the design and build
process. You will be involved in the full usability lifecycle through
factoring in usability issues at the project scoping and planning stage,
designing and carrying out user task analysis and associated user
consultation, writing up research findings and over-seeing
implementation of the research and report recommendations.

Where possible, there will be an opportunity and encouragement to pursue
informal and formal research publications. There may also be a
need/opportunity to conduct various levels of training and educational
presentations to promote usability and its importance in Web site design
and development.

One year post in the first instance with an immediate start.

The closing date for applications is Thursday 29 June. For further
