Has got a point though. Paramedics and BASICS and I'm sure A&E have a
harmonious approach to patient care. We all treat to the same priorities,
allbeit with differing skill levels.

I must confess, I never presume to "take over". I ask what I can do and
sometimes "suggest" things. As a regular pre-hospital provider, I rarely now
come across a crew I don't know, and we work well together.

But we all know of nightmares. A freshly qualified houseman, feeling he must
take charge, the consultant psychiatrist taking over the cardiac arrest -
badly. To work effectively in the pre-hospital field, as we have already
stated, needs a high standard of training and experience.

It works smoothly, most of the time, because BASICS docs, and I'm sure HEMS
are working as a team, with people whose training we understand, and a large
amount of mutual respect.

Without it, I feel many a British paramedic would feel exactly the same as
Charles, and still do when coming across an eager doc keen to help.

Best wishes

Jeremy
