APOLOGIES FOR CROSS -POSTINGS Invitation to delegates Bookings are currently being taken for the following conference: The First Northumbria Creativity Conference Wednesday 30th August - Friday 1st September, 2000 University of Northumbria at Newcastle, UK (Longhirst Campus) Enhancing students' creativity - Creating the creative university Following on from the success of the four previous international Northumbria higher education conferences on assessment, it is our intention to hold the First Northumbria Creativity conference. The aim of this conference will be to explore the ways in which educational and organisational development may enable students to enhance their creativity, in or across all disciplines. The format of the Northumbria Creativity Conference will be highly participative. Much of our work will be undertaken in thematic task groups, which will be commissioned to adopt imaginative approaches to the design of: * Teaching, learning and assessment methods * Higher education curricula * Learning environments * Staff development strategies * Academic departments * Universities and colleges, and government policies for higher education, specifically to enhance the creative ability of students (and therefore, their teachers and managers). The work of the task groups will be stimulated by keynote talks, workshops and other resources. Our guest speakers and facilitators will include: * Amy Swisher, Creativity Consultant, RiverRun Communications, USA; * Graham Rawlinson, Next Step Associates. Innovation Consultant and TRIZ Specialist; * John Abbott, 21st Century Learning Initiative, a transitional programme to synthesise the best of research and development into the nature of human learning, and to examine its implications for education, work and the development of communities worldwide; * Caroline Baillie, Lecturer in Materials and in Education Development; and * Simon Dewulf, Researcher, Creativity Project Leaders, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London. * David Weir, Dean and Director of the Newcastle Business School, University of Northumbria at Newcastle, UK.
