CALL FOR PAPERS
"KINDER- UND JUGENDLITERATUR" CONFERENCES

Proposals of papers of 20 minutes are invited for two linked conferences on
German Kinder- und Jugendliteratur.

Organisers:
Dr Susan Tebbutt, University of Bradford, Dr Norbert Pachler, Institute of
Education, London, Dr Ulrike Cohen, Goethe Institut, London, Astrid
Küllmann-Lee, LSE, London

The first conference, to be held on 18 November 2000, will focus on the
following themes:

German Jugendliteratur
Historical and contemporary issues
1. Definitions of Jugendliteratur
2. Historical aspects of German Jugendliteratur - overview/contemporary trends
3. Problems in translating German Jugendliteratur
4. National stereotypes in German Jugendliteratur in the twentieth century
… The target audience for this part: primarily university teachers.

The second, to be held in May 2001 (probably in Birmingham) will focus on

German Jugendliteratur and DaF
1. Ansatzpunkte - thematic approaches, linguistic approaches, work on
stereotypes
2. Medien und Jugendliteratur - use of cassettes, Cds, films and multimedia
3. Praktische Arbeit - use of Jugendliteratur in the
school/college/university syllabus
… The target audience for this part: primarily secondary school teachers.

Papers may be given in either German or English. The AMGS has its own fully
refereed publication: Modern German Studies (MGS) The first volume is out
and others in varying stages of production. AMGS plans to publish a volume
in 2001/2002 which will include papers from the two linked conferences. All
selected papers will be refereed and contributors should be prepared to
revise their paper and/or draft their final contribution in accordance with
the guidelines laid down by CILT and meet deadlines as requested.
