Paul Treanor's idea of giving the cash to the poor citizens of 3rd world countries rather than the greedy, in-hand -to 1st-world, or corrupt governments sounds good but may run into some socio- economic problems. Firstly, all this is likely to do is raise prices in the receiving country through a massive rise in its money supply, so in real terms the citizens there would be no better off, and some could be worse off. I remember a Nazi plot during WW2 to shower the UK with fake £1 notes, in order to cause massive economic chaos. Rising prices in 3rd w country would rapidly divert this cash to the companies and govt institutions there, eg thru escalating size of bribes to get govt services etc. Hillary Shaw, P/G Geography, University of Leeds %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
