Applied psychological researcher in games

We're looking for experimental psychologists to work in Redmond, Washington
at Microsoft's Playtest lab, an applied research lab that focuses on getting
feedback from consumers about computer and console games and how to make
them more fun. Microsoft is the 4th largest publisher of games for the PC,
and is now beginning development on games for its upcoming (TV-based)
console, the X-box. Essentially, we are dealing with the central question
of what people find fun in games, for the purpose of making games more fun
for more people.

Job description:
The primary day-to-day tasks of the Playtest specialist position is to meet
with team members who are developing a game, determine what questions about
their game they want to have answered by gamers, develop a test
(predominantly questionnaire-based) to answer those questions. The
specialist then oversees the running of the test, takes the raw data and
writes a report that captures the important findings from that test.

Required skills: Strong understanding of research methods with human
participants is required, and familiarity with questionnaire research is
preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and argue
for results based on data both in writing is and group presentations
necessary. A BA/BS in Psychology (cognitive, experimental, or social) or
HCI/HFE, or related field is required, and MA/MS or Ph.D. is preferred.
General knowledge of popular computer and video games and game culture are
required--you must be an avid gamer. You will be joining a team of 8 other
psychologists (predominantly with post-graduate level training in social and
cognitive psych) in the exciting and fast-growing field of interactive
entertainment.

please email your resume to [log in to unmask] Thank you.
