[Joseph Beatus] Just a few thoughts re exercie:1. For Trans. Abdom.
- try singing, in the shower if the voice is poor.
	2. Trunk muscle activation (may apply to kicking activities): From
the little I know, volitional movements (and hence the regional brain
activity)require the prior activation of proximal(axial &/or trunk) muscles,
most of the time.( Evarts & Wise's work in the 60th-70th re pre-evoked
potentials; in a more mundane area, Nashner's work in 80th-90th, re long
loop reflexes and muscle activation). Activity in the basal ganglia,
cerebellum, suppl. motor and premotor area are a few of the brain area which
"light up" pre volitional activity. Further, although "isolated" muscle
activity IS important (exam, inflammation, muscle re-education (go to a hand
clinic if you do not believe me) and the like) the brain likes movements
(the work of Basmajian not withstanding, See work by Byl re over use
syndromes, you may change your mind about movement altogether), tasks, AND,
as the Russians discovered long ago - a target, purpose. What does it all
mean? Offer movement strategies that incorporate tasks, in a non-volitional
manner. How? use your imagination (EMG studies re recruitment patterns help.
Do not fall prey to protocol and routines. Modalities are ADJUNCTS, and at
times junky.
