I wonder if anyone has any idea what can be meant by the following clause (c. 61) in the Canones Martini, appended to the documents of the Council of Braga (572): Non liceat sacerdotes vel clericos sed nec religiosos laicos convivia facere de confertis. Hefele and Leclercq, Histoire des conciles, evidently think that confertis is a mistranscription for something like confratriis, but both C.W. Barlow (in Martini Episcopi Bracarensis Opera Omnia, New Haven, 1950)and J. Vives (in Concilios Visigoticos e Hispano-Romanos, Barcelona and Madrid, 1963)) give the same spelling, as does the Epitome Hispanico, an early 7th century collection.
