Apologies for cross-posting The National Library of Australia recently hosted a working meeting of the Australian subject gateways. It was the first time all gateway owners were able to come together to discuss issues and intentions in common. Chris Rusbridge, Programme Director for eLib, spoke about subject gateway initiatives in the UK. The meeting canvassed issues in the following areas: how to define a subject gateway, choosing a software solution for hosting this service type, metadata applications, promotional activities, avenues for extended collaboration, and sustainability. It is intended that another meeting will be hosted in the second half of this year, to build on the cooperative spirit generated by the first meeting. A full report of the meeting is available at http://www.nla.gov.au/initiatives/sg/, and more resources will be added periodically for the benefit of creators and managers of subject gateways. Please contact Debbie Campbell if you would like further information. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
