Dear Scott,

In view of the fact that Osgoods in its advanced
stages can actually lead to irregular ossification of
the tibial tuberosity, sometimes visible on x-ray, how
would encouraging bone growth with ultrasound help?
Also, the use of ultrasound is contraindicated in the
area of specialised tissue, which to my mind includes
a child's growth plate. Therefore the disruption of a
child's bony growth would be my main concern, rather
than failure to report pain. The tibial tuberosity is
an extension of the proximal epiphyseal centre of the
tibia and its own ossification centre may appear about
the age of 12. This last bit is according to Gray's
anatomy, which makes me feel glad that I am not using
this £100 purchase solely as a stand for my stereo.
