I am trying to locate a good index to use to represent technology advances in health care over time. I would like to be able to have U.S. state-level indicators going back at least 20 years. Ideally, the indicator should not be correlated with per-capita income - I have thought of trying mortality rates or average life expectancy, but they would tend to be correlated with income. Any ideas or actual data would be appreciated. Thanks.
