An excellent list. Under Obstetrics I would consider adding,
"Magnesium Sulfate versus Phenytoin for the prevention of Eclamptic Seizures". N Eng J Med 1995. 333(4):201-5
This was also covered in Evidence-Based Medicine 1996;1(2):44-45.
CER 0.9%
EER 0%
NNT 109
I also believe there was an excellent summary in a July issue of Lancet, which stated now there was superior evidence for the use of magnesium sulfate.

Subject: Randomized and NON-randomized trials that changed the practice... .
<<Randomized trials that changed medical practice-list.doc>>
<<NON-RCT-that changed practice.doc>>
Dear Colleagues,
a month or so ago, I asked for help in a creation of the list of RCTs that
changed the practice from the members of EBM discussion group. Thanks to
you, I have now created such a list. In addition, I have created a list of
non-RCTs that changed the practice (as suggested by some of you). I am
planning to put these two lists on the web (as I am expecting a lot of
interest for such a catalog that hopefully we can continue to update with
input from other members of the group). However, before I send these two
lists to the rest of the discussion group, I would appreciate it if you can
have another look at it. In particular, it would be desirable if you can
further editorialized your contribution and high-light the importance of the
study (you will notice that in many instances, only reference is given and
significance of the study might not be apparent to non-experts). Of course,
if you can think of any other examples (RCT or NON-RCT) please feel free to
add it to the list. (At this point, don't worry about esthetics of the
document-will try to improve it prior to putting it on the web). If you
return the original files to me, please make sure to highlight your changes.
Thanks again for your help and interest in this little project, that
hopefully can further high-light significance of clinical research.
looking forward to hearing from you
with best wishes
