Members may be interested to know that reports from the UK DTI Energy and the Environment Programme are avaialble on the internet (www.etsu.com/en_env) The main themes of the Programme's research are; - climate change - e.g. investigating technologies for the capture and disposal of carbon dioxide; - energy issues - e.g. assessing the scope for fuel economy improvements in petrol and light diesel vehicles , development of the Energy Model; - local air quality - e.g. modelling of local air pollution from coal and oil- fired boilers; modelling atmospheric chemistry and transport of acidic emissions; - sampling and analysis of airbourne particles in rural areas; - other environmental issues - e.g. investigating the cost to industry of meeting future regulatory demands; modelling future emissions of 'acid gases' as well as assessing acidification recovery.
