Members may be interested to know that reports from the UK DTI Energy and the Environment Programme are avaialble on the internet (www.etsu.com/en_env)

The main themes of the Programme's research are;

-  climate change - e.g. investigating technologies for the capture and disposal of carbon dioxide;
-  energy issues - e.g. assessing the scope for fuel economy improvements in petrol and light diesel vehicles , development of the Energy Model;
-  local air quality - e.g. modelling of local air pollution from coal and oil- fired boilers; modelling atmospheric chemistry and transport of acidic emissions;
-  sampling and analysis of airbourne particles in rural areas;
- other environmental issues - e.g. investigating the cost to industry of meeting future regulatory demands; modelling future emissions of 'acid gases' as well as assessing acidification recovery.

Recent publications include:

- 'Biological Responses To Acidification Reversal In Cumbrian Streamwaters - Stream Water Chemistry - (N/01/00057/REP A)
· 'Study for Particulate Sampling, Sizing and Analysis for Composition' (N/01/00049).
·  'Reversal of Surface Water Acidification in the Upper Duddon Catchment (English Lake District) (N/01/00051)';
· 'Estimation of NOx and SOx Emissions for UK Industrial Sectors: Phase IV' (N/01/00055).
