US MARC for beginners
a one day workshop on 14 March, at Library Association HQ in London

This workshop is specifically designed to present the US MARC format to
those conversant with the underlying structure and function of UK MARC.

The day will review the practical differences of using US MARC and also
explore the wider possibilities that the US MARC format offers. The range
of extra fields in US MARC will be considered, with a focus on music as an
example, the US MARC authority formats will also be explored practically.

How will this event help you?

As librarians consider buying new library systems, the question of change to
the US MARC format has to be considered, this workshop provides information
to inform those decisions. As US MARC becomes more common, it becomes an
expected element in the cataloguer's professional competence.

Features

This course considers both the US MARC Bibliographic format and the US MARC
Authority formats. The Authority formats are progressively being used by
American systems suppliers to control name and subject authority on their
systems.

Who will benefit from attending?
