The Sociology Program, which is wholly occupied with staff research
and postgraduate training, has one post available for a senior scholar to
work on lifecourse analysis, with particular reference to the project,
Negotiating the Lifecourse. This interdisciplinary project is a
panel study, the first wave of which was completed in 1997. The second
wave is planned for early 2000. The project deals with a wide range of
issues, including women’s and men’s careers over the lifecourse, the
links between paid and unpaid work, the dynamics of household formation,
and the implications of social changes for the public and private
provision of welfare. Although preference will be given to
candidates able to contribute to this project, persons with interests and
experience in cognate areas related to the general study of social
inequality in Australian society will also be considered. As the
position involves full-time research, applicants should provide a brief
outline of the research they propose to undertake.
Appointment: fixed term for up to five years. We are
seeking to appoint a person who will bring new perspectives, skills and
experience to complement the work of existing staff of the Program.
