Subject: abstracts on cd-rom Date: 14-Jan-00 at 19:05 From: James M. Blaut, jblaut@uic TO: AAG,INTERNET:[log in to unmask] AAG PITTSBURGH PROGRAM ORGANIZERS: PLEASE do not give us the program Abstracts on CD-ROM. The CD-ROM disk is almost useless to -- those of us who don't have computers with CD-ROM drives -- those of us who don't carry laptops to the meetings. Thats pretty much the whole membership. The Abstracts volume is of relatively little use before and after the meetings. It is AT the meetings that most of us look at the volume -- to decide what sessions to attend; to find out what topics are hot; etc., etc., etc. The book of abstracts is IMPORTANT to all of us at THAT time. I appreciate the organization's desire to save (our) money, but CD-ROmming the Abstracts is a false saving. I made this point at last year's business meeting. Hopefully my argument was accepted.
