The School, headed by Professor Rod Troutbeck, has strong research collaborative links with leading transportation institutions in the US, Europe and Asia. It has a track record of excellence in the areas of road user behaviour, road safety, traffic flow efficiency, transport evaluation, as well as railway engineering, operations and planning. Significant industry and competitive grants have recently been obtained in those areas. </flushboth> <flushboth>Evidence of its strong industry links is the continuing significant support from the Queensland Departments of Main Roads and Transport, in the form of an on-going Memoradum of Understanding (MoU). Dr Luis Ferreira has recently been appointed as Professor in Transport Efficiency as part of that MoU to work mainly on road based urban network performance. The increased industry funding will enable the School to enhance its transportation research and training through the two appointments described below.</flushboth> <center>Lecturer in Transportation</center> <flushboth>The appointee in the School of Civil Engineering (Gardens Point campus) will teach units in the School's undergraduate and/or postgraduate programs and focus on the research and development of subject material for new units within the school.
