<<Baltimore Sun responds to transgender community ...In response, the Sun ran a third article. While the newspaper could have done nothing at all, or could have ran a blurb about pronoun usage or clarified that Ranta was a transgender woman, not a transvestite, the newspaper featured a lengthy, well-written profile about Ranta in its Dec. 15 issue. >> For those who are really interested, this isn't the Baltimore Sun's first in-depth profile on trans issues (unfortunately, i haven't read this Ranta article though, because they charge to access their archives online). My guess is that part of the problem with the initial articles on Ranta is that they were using the AP as a source (for instance, the Nov 25th article mentioned in this email was an AP release). If you'd like to see an example of earlier Sun coverage (not on their archive server), check out: http://www.geocities.com/lexiadams/sun97.html from Sept 1997. - lexi %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
