"DEVELOPING THE DEVELOPERS TO DELIVER NETWORKED STAFF
DEVELOPMENT"
Background
===========
The Computer
Based Collaborative Group Work (CBCGW) Project is a TLTP Phase
3 initiative
that supports the development and exploration of networked
collaborative
group work in higher education. The project is based in the
Department of
Educational Studies at the University of Sheffield. Further
details about the
project can be obtained from our web site at
http://collaborate.shef.ac.uk. One
element of the project is concerned with
the support of staff
developers.
The recent Talisman Report (Alexander, W., 1999) points to
the need for a
forum to support staff developers in providing professional
development for
ICT to academics. This report also highlights a gap in
provision for
pedagogical applications of ICT. To address these needs, the
CBCGW Project
aims to develop experiential models of collaborative support
and to provide
a forum for staff developers. This will be done through
regional
face-to-face workshops and through the collaborative provision of
networked
resources, discussions and events.
Regional Workshop
Programme
==========================
As part of our
dissemination work, a series of regional workshops will be
offered to relate
findings from the project. Besides introducing the
findings and resources of
the project, these workshops will provide a
platform for staff developers to
initiate and develop a networked community
of interest around the issues and
practices of networked approaches to staff
development.
Staff
developers from any U.K HEI are invited to participate in and
contribute to
any of the regional workshops. The workshop programme aims
are:
To
raise awareness of networked collaborative learning.
To survey & share
current practice in networked staff development.
To survey the professional
development needs of staff development officers
to deliver networked
staff development.
To support the collaborative development of networked
staff development in
an online forum hosted by Sheffield
University.
To introduce the possibility of participation in an online
course
(provisional dates 27th March to 19th May -c.8
weeks).
